West beats East 113-108 in college All-Star game

HOUSTON (AP) - Andrew Goudelock scored 21 points, and Kenneth Faried had 17 points and 18 rebounds to lead the West team to a 113-108 win over the East in the Reese's college All-Star game on Friday afternoon.

Morehead State's Faried wowed the crowd with his rim-rattling dunks but also got a few giggles when he missed a one-hander. Faried, the all-time Division I rebounder in the modern era, dominated the boards to help the West rally from a 13-point second-half deficit.

The 6-foot-8, 228-pound Faried, who is considered an NBA prospect, helped tiny Morehead State knock off Louisville 62-61 in the second round of the tournament.

Faried, who was fighting through a stomach bug, loves rebounding.

"It's just a passion I have," Faried said. "My mother and father told me about the importance of it, and I just focus on rebounding as if my life depended on it. It really seems like it does now."

Billy Tubbs, the former Oklahoma and TCU coach, was impressed by Faried's rebounding.

"With a player like that on my team I would win a lot," Tubbs said.

Goudelock, from the College of Charleston, made five 3-pointers for the West, and Michigan State's Kalin Lucas added 18 points.

"I can shoot," Goudelock said. "It feels the same every day. As long as I get a rhythm and I stay focused and I have confidence in my shot, I always expect to make the shots."

The East team was led by Georgetown's Austin Freeman, who had 21 points, in a game of top seniors from across the country. Gary McGhee of Pittsburgh added 10 points and had 18 rebounds for the East.

"It feels good to come out and play with some of the best players in the country," McGhee said. "Some of us are mad our team got beat, but we're glad we got to come out here and get together and have a good time."

Cameron Jones, who broke the single-season scoring record this season at Northern Arizona, chipped in 14 points and had three steals for the West. Chris Warren of Mississippi helped the East with 14 points.

Gary Johnson of Texas, had 12 points playing in his hometown.
