FOREST HILL, Texas (AP) — Authorities say a North Texas pastor died after a man drove his car into the church and attacked the pastor with an electric guitar.

Forest Hill Police Chief Dan Dennis said officers arrived at the Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church on Monday to find an assault in progress.

Dennis identified the pastor as the Rev. Danny Kirk, Sr. He said Kirk died at the scene.

Police used a Taser to detain the suspect, who was not identified. The suspect was found unresponsive shortly afterward and later was pronounced dead.

Dennis did not identify a motive for the attack.

Part of the suspect's car remained inside the building. Hundreds of people were outside of the church, hugging and crying.

Forest Hill is a suburb south of Fort Worth.
