(CNN) - It's a driver's worst nightmare caught on camera - a driver speeding the wrong way on a highway.

Al Fanning, his wife and two kids were driving home from the beach when they first saw the vehicle driving in front of them weaving all over the place. Al tried to pull up alongside of him to see what was wrong.

"He had both hands on the steering wheel. And his head was just dropped like he was unconscious... I was blowing the horn at him trying to get him to wake up," he said.

At a traffic light, the vehicle crossed over to the wrong side of the highway, and that's when the Fannings started recording and dialed 911.

The wrong way vehicle crashed into a Ford Expedition. The driver, 58-year-old Edward Fairley, suffered non life-threatening injuries. Fanning says police believe a medical condition may have caused his wild driving. Fairley has been charged with reckless driving and no proof of insurance. But he could face more charges, depending on the results of toxicology tests.

The occupants of the Expedition were not seriously injured.
