AUSTIN (KXAN) - Rain and thunderstorms increased across the area overnight, bringing heavy rainfall with some isolated 2- to 4 inch totals.

Light hail was reported in Bastrop in the upper Elgin River Road at Wilbarger, according to dispatchers. Star Ranch Road is closed. In Crabapple, 11 miles north of Fredericksburg, residents watched as snow flurries fell from the sky.

The good news for our area is that the temperatures will remain above freezing until the precipitation comes to an end early Friday, so icing is not expected locally.

It has gotten much colder Friday morning, as temperatures fall into the 30s and low 40s overnight and remain in the 40s all day Friday.

Subfreezing temperatures are expected areawide early Saturday morning, and again Sunday morning with highs near 50 degrees Saturday and 55 degrees on Sunday.

Storms Thursday caused damage in the Big Country. The city of Coleman reported widespread wind damage across the city. A storm spotter reported a roof blown off a motel in Cross Plains. Some damage was also reported at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

A dangerous ice storm has developed in the colder air behind the front from near Lubbock through central Oklahoma. Many communites reported downed trees and power lines due freezing rain. Several inches of snow have fallen in the Panhandle.
