AUSTIN (KXAN) - Thanks to the recent rain, the Highland Lake levels are on the rise.

Lake Buchanan is at 1,000 feet, which is about 58 percent full. Lake Travis is at 664 feet, which is about 74 percent full.

On Friday, LCRA opened the floodgates at Wirtz and Starcke Dams on Lake LBJ because too much water was flowing through the Llano River and Sandy Creek.

LCRA Meteorologist Bob Rose said the recent rain really helped our Highland Lakes.

"The rains last week produced a fairly widespread two to four inches of rain across the Hill Country in just the right areas to produce a significant runoff in Lake Buchanan and Lake Travis," said Rose.

The Highland Lakes could rise an extra two or three feet from this week's forecast rain.
