SAN MARCOS - Texas State signed 25 players for their first recruiting class that will play one FBS or Division One. The Bobcats move into the Western Athletic Conference this fall.
Second-year Head Coach Dennis Franchione said that the key was upgrading the talent to FBS level and having players believe in their plan to make the jump.
"It's been good that they have heard our message our vision and the ones are signing actually have bought in," said Franchione. "They see whats happening here and are excited about it, our family atmosphere as a football program as a city and as an institution and so those were all key ingrediants for us."
The class includes two players from the Austin area. Offensive lineman Felix Romero from Cedar Park is excited of being part of the move.
"I'm just excited to start the legacy over at Texas State, their first year going to D1 and getting their program up and the Texas State name around the nation."
Leander defensive back Martel Summers also signed with the Bobcats on Wednesday.
Nine of the 25 Texas State recruits come from junior colleges as Franchione tries to bring in some immediate impact players to make the move a little smoother. Here is a link to their entire recruiting class.
