AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas lost its first Big 12 series of the season two games to one after dropping Sunday's rubber match to Texas Tech 4-2.
Former Westwood standout Ben Johnson gave the Longhorns an early 2-0 lead with a two-run home run to left field. It was Johnson's second home run.
But despite loading the bases twice during the game, those were the only runs Texas could score.
Texas Tech tied the game in the top of the third with a pair of RBI. Bryant Burleson brought in Tech's first run on an RBI single through the left side to score Jake Barrios to cut Texas' lead to 2-1. On the very next batter, Devon Conley brought in Brett Bell on a safety squeeze to tie the game.
The Red Raiders took the lead in the sixth on Jarrard Poteete's single to right to plate Conley to go up 3-2. They extended their lead to 4-2 on a passed ball by Travis Duke.
Cedar Park product Nathan Thornhill got the loss, dropping to 1-2, throwing six innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits while striking out a career-high seven batters.
Texas' next four games are on the road, with a mid-week game against Houston Tuesday, and a three-game series against Minnesota at the Metrodome.
