AUSTIN (KXAN) -- - With Alabama's 42-14 rout of Notre Dame in Monday's BCS National Championship, the college football season officially ended, making way for the final rankings of 2012.
Texas finished the season ranked in the top 20 in both the AP and Coaches' poll.
For the 14th time in Mack Brown's 15 years at Texas, the Horns finished the season ranked in the Coaches' poll, earning a no. 18 ranking.
With Texas' no. 19 ranking in the AP poll, the Longhorns snapped a two-year skid where they weren't ranked in the final AP poll of the year. This is the 13th time in Mack's tenure at Texas the Longhorns finished the year ranked in the AP poll.
Alabama finished the year as the unanimous no. 1 team in both polls. Following Oregon's 35-17 win over Big 12 champion Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl, the Ducks finished the year ranked second in both polls.
Texas A&M's trouncing of Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl propelled them to their first top five finish since 1956.
Only three Big 12 teams finished the year ranked, with Kansas State earning the highest ranking at no. 11 in the Coaches', and 12 in the AP poll. Oklahoma finished ranked 15th in both polls.
This was the first time since the 2006 season the Big 12 didn't have a team ranked in the top 10 of either poll at the end of the season.
