AUSTIN (KXAN) - - Texas beat Texas Tech 2-1 on a walk-off RBI double from Jacob Felts to tie its opening series 1-1.
With one out and the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Jacob Felts hit a double to deep center. The ball bounced off the tip of Brett Bell's outstretched glove and rolled to the wall to score Madison Carter from first.
It was Texas third walk-off win in as many home Saturday games.
The game was a pitchers' duel for most of the day. Texas Tech junior pitcher and Giddings native, Trey Masek, went eight innings, giving up six runs while striking out six and walking four.
Masek's only earned run came in the bottom of the first when Erich Weiss' RBI single scored Weston Hall from second to give Texas the early 1-0 lead.
The run was the first Masek had given up in 32 1/3 innings to start the season.
Dillon Peters went 8 1/3 innings for Texas, giving up just one run on five hits while striking out seven and walking three batters.
The Red Raiders tied the game in the top of the third on an RBI groundout from Devon Conley to score Mason Randolph from third.
In the top of the ninth, Peters found himself in trouble, loading the bases with just one out before Corey Knebel came in to earn his second win of the season by striking out the next two batters to keep the game tied at 1-1.
First pitch for the rubber game in both teams' first conference series of the season is Sunday at 1 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
