AUSTIN (KXAN) - Teams heading to Austin for the NCAA tournament covered a combined 7,704 miles.

Four of the eight schools had to travel more than 1,000 miles just to get to the Heart of Texas.

University of the Pacific, in Stockton, Calif., had to cover the most ground, traveling 1,444 miles.

UCLA (1,223 miles), Miami (1,113) and Minnesota (1,048) joined Pacific as schools covering more than 1,000 miles on their trip.

The University of Florida is 924 miles away from capitol city.

The University of Colorado’s campus in Boulder is 793 miles from Austin, and the University of Illinois is 865 miles away.

Northwestern State out of Natchitoches, Louisiana, was the closest school. Their campus is just 294 miles away from Austin.

The mileage was figured in a straight line. Travel distances by land and using roads and highways generated longer distances.
