LONDON (KXAN) - Sanya Richards-Ross finished fifth in the finals of the 200-meters, ending her attempt at a 200-400 Olympic double.
American Allyson Felix won gold, while teammate Carmelita Jeter captured bronze.
Richards-Ross made up ground on the field in the final 50 meters and was closing on fourth place runner Veronica Campbell-Brown and Jeter as they crossed the finish line.
Richards-Ross - competing in her third Olympics - reached her goal of winning an individual gold medal Monday, when the former Longhorn won the 400-meters. Felix’s win in the 200 happened under similar circumstances, she won silver in the event in 2008 and 2004.
"She's had a very good season and definitely deserves this moment," Richards-Ross told the Associated Press. "She's just like me, she's wanted this for a very long time."
The 200 final was the sixth race in six days for Richards-Ross. She will compete in the 4x400-relay beginning Friday, with the final set for Saturday.
