Okafor named All-American

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Longhorns junior Alex Okafor was named All-American by the American Football Coaches Association on Tuesday.

Okafor led the Longhorns with seven sacks and 14 tackles for loss.The Pflugerville High School product played out of position at defensive tackle last season due to a lack a depth but was moved back to end in during spring practice. 

For his career he has registered 103 tackles (49 solo), 9.5 sacks, 20 TFL, 36 pressures, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He appeared in 12 games, starting eight, as a sophomore where he posted 30 tackles (14 solo), 2.5 sacks, four TFL, 13 pressures and one forced fumble. Okafor played in 14 games as a true freshman and was named to the All-Big 12 freshman team by Sporting News when he posted 22 tackles, two TFL, a forced fumble and six pressures.

Okafor is a two-time academic all-district selection and a two-time member of The University of Texas's Athletics Director's Honor Roll (Spring 2010/Fall 2010).

Okafor and the Longhorns are taking a break from practice during their final exams and will get back to work next week. The Longhorns will go back to practice next week and then get a few days off before meeting in San Diego on the 23rd to begin their Holiday Bowl preparations.
