AUSTIN - Sometimes, it's the simple things.
"I've gone from a loss to a win," freshman quarterback David Ash said, smiling. "So I'm pretty happy about that."
Senior running back Fozzy Whittaker said the Longhorns' first win since October 1 against Iowa State is appreciated.
"You can never take a win for granted," he said. "Just going off our team bonding that we've been having the whole year and just the way we've responded to the game. Coming off the bye week and not having a win in the two previous games, it always feels good. You can't take it for granted."
Texas' fifth win of the year included 590 yards of total offense. Though it was against the worst defense in the country, Mack Brown says it was still significant.
"I thought it was as physical as we'd been in a long time," Brown said. "We rushed for 441 yards, which is exceptional. I thought we did a better job throwing the ball as well. We didn't have to throw it as much. We will continue to grow in that area and our defense totally dominated the game."
Freshman running back Malcolm Brown ran 119 yards two touchdowns.
"It was great," Brown said. "Offensive line was giving a great push the whole night, and you just kind of have a rhythm you're just trying to catch and everything was going and we just kept on rolling."
One of the reasons for the offensive domination is their confidence. Players say they're growing together, and growing into their roles, including at quarterback.
"It was a great team effort. Everybody playing good, tough Texas football out there tonight, so yeah, I just have to hand the ball off and run the offense. It makes it pretty easy."
Brown said the effects of the win are important.
"It's such a great morale boost. It lets them understand that they can be good. And they've still got a lot of work to do."
