(NBC) - Tiger Woods is not required to talk to authorities and it looks like he is exercising that option, but Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate and still said charges are pending.

As the world's most famous golfer maintains his silence, pictures and 911 tapes are beginning to tell a part of the story for him.

Operator: By hit a tree, you mean there was an auto accident?
Neighbor: Yes, there was an auto accident. Yes.
Operator: Is he unconscious?
Neighbor: Yes.
Operator: OK, are you able to tell if he's breathing?
Neighbor: No, I can't tell right now.

Early Friday morning, a neighbor called for help, describing a man lying in the street, while photos obtained by TMZ show the scene minutes after Woods' car slammed into a fire hydrant and a tree.

The front fender and wheel were smashed, and both back windows were punched out. For some, this was a red flag after the story that Woods' wife told police. She said she used a golf club to break a window in order to rescue Woods.

In a statement on his Web site, Woods denounces the rumors saying: "Elin acted courageously, coming to his rescue" and that any other assertion is absolutely false. He also said "the situation is my fault and it's obviously embarrassing to my family."

Towards the end of the statement, he requested privacy, which might be hard to get with so few details on the curious accident.
