AUSTIN - It's not the most common cheer.
"We're 9-0!" junior defensive end Sam Acho said, laughing.
But the undefeated record is a welcome benchmark. This is the second time in 26 years Texas has started the season with nine wins and no losses.
"There's nobody on this team that has been 9-0 when they've been playing," senior quarterback Colt McCoy said. "So we're in a really cool spot and that's fun for us."
Senior wide receiver Jordan Shipley gave reasons why the team has their first undefeated start since 2005.
"We're really excited to be 9-0," Shipley said. "And I think the thing about this team is we have great senior leadership and they're keeping everyone focused every week, and we're all really just having fun, and enjoying just getting to play and enjoying the opportunity."
As much as the Longhorns seem to appreciate the record, head coach Mack Brown said the undefeated mark comes with responsibility.
"Our job is to continue to win," Brown said. "And it's to do the best we can do each week to keep our eyes on our goals and not be distracted by individual honors, not be distracted by the BCS or the computers or the polls, and what people like to talk about all the time."
With three games left in the regular season, 9-0 is just a start.
"It is significant but it's not our ultimate goal," Acho said. "Our ultimate goal is to win a Big 12 Championship. So being 9-0 isn't there yet. So we know we have a little ways to go before we reach our goal."
