HOUSTON (KXAN) - The No. 4 Texas baseball team may have earned their biggest win of the season so far. The Longhorns edged No. 9 Rice 2-1 at Minute Maid Park to open their weekend at the Houston Classic.
Sophomore Taylor Jungmann got the start, striking out eight batters, allowing four hits and one run in 7-2/3 innings. Junior Chance Ruffin got the win in relief.
Runs were a premium for both teams. Texas broke a scoreless tie in the 6th inning on a single by Cameron Rupp. Jordan Etier scored from second base.
Etier scored again in the 8th inning on a double by Tant Sheppard.
The Longhorns are back at Minute Maid Park on Saturday, March 6 against Houston at 3:30pm.
