AUSTIN, TEX (KXAN) - Cat Osterman is coming back to Austin to coach. Osterman was named assistant coach for former teammate Lindsay Gardner who was named Head Coach at St. Edwards University. Gardner takes over the head coaching duties where she served as an assistant in 2007 and 2008.
Gardner is a former UT All American and was Osterman's teammate in 2002 and 2003.
The two played together in club softball in Houston prior to college and then played professionally together as well as the 2001 and 2002 USA National Team.
“It’s nice to have someone who is so familiar. Not only as a player, but just knowing how she cares about the game,” Gardner said about Osterman. “I know I can absolutely trust everything she’s going to do for the program.”
Osterman was a three-time National Player of the Year and four-time NCAA All-American while pitching at UT. She pitched for Team USA from 2001-2010 appearing in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, finishing with Gold and Silver Medals, respectively. Osterman served as an assistant coach at Depaul University from 2008-2010.
“You want to coach because it’s the easiest transition,” Osterman said. “I’m really happy to be here. I couldn’t be asking for someone better to work with than Lindsay. Life presents opportunities when you’re supposed to take them.”
Osterman is still playing professionally and will join the staff full time this fall.
