AUSTIN (KXAN) - Despite the crushing loss to LSU in the College World Series final, UT fans stood outside in the blistering heat to greet the baseball team as they returned.
Most fans noted how wild of a ride it was to get to the championship game. With a 25-inning game versus Boston College , a walk-off grand slam when facing Army and a 6-run rally against Arizona State , the UT baseball team certainly tried their hardest to bring home the championship.
However, in the end, their luck and spunk did not get them the trophy. LSU, who went undefeated in the tournament until facing Texas, smashed teams one-by-one.
"They are the best team we've played by far," Texas coach Augie Garrido said. "We didn't lose it. They won it. It was a well-deserved championship."
In the end, however, Longhorn fans wanted to show they supported them in their trek.
The fans gathered at 1:30 p.m. outside of Disch Falk Field to cheer for their team and to look towards the future.
"This is the beginning of a new era of Texas baseball in Omaha,'' Garrido said after Wednesday night's 11-4 loss. "We didn't have a player who played in the College World Series before, and they finished second.''
