AUSTIN - After four weeks and four wins, the Longhorns get some time to relax and re-evaluate.

"I think we're in the second part of our season," sophomore receiver Dan Buckner said. "In our first part we went undefeated, so being undefeated is always great, and Coach [Mack] Brown always emphasizes you've got to celebrate every win, because it's hard to get a win in college football."

In addition to his team's 64-7 defeat of UTEP, Brown talked about his team's progress since the beginning of the year.

"We feel like we have a million things still to work on, but we're where we want to be," Brown said. "This was a good way to finish and we're going to have to be careful people don't brag on this performance so much, that our guys get complacent and lacadasical."

Sophomore safety Blake Gideon had an interception in Saturday's game.

"Great teams are going to get better every week," Gideon said. "You never stay the same. You know you're going to get better or worse. And so we've learned from our mistakes and we want to keep taking a step forward.

The Longhorns allowed just 53 yards against UTEP in their 64-7 win, and gained 638 offensive yards, capping off their start to the season, but quarterback Colt McCoy said it's not a stopping point.

"If we use this momentum and use this week off the right way, I think it could definitely be a help for us," McCoy said.

Brown stressed the importance of staying focused on team assignments during the bye week, and pointed out the recent upsets in college football. Four AP top 10 teams lost in the fourth week.

"College football is such an amazing game," Brown said. "When you look up and see some of those scores-- what happens is teams play differently each week. And what you've got to do is win when you're not playing well. And that's the trick because you're going to have some bad days."

But as the team enters the bye week, the Longhorns are averaging 49 points a game. They've already beaten the one team who beat them last year, and maybe that chance Brown talks about hasn't come yet.
