CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) - Cedar Park's Nathan Thornhill signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at the University of Texas at Austin. Thornhill called it a childhood dream come true.
"Growing up, you always want to play for the University of Texas," said Thornhill.
Thornhill, whose fastball tops 90 mph, always wanted to play at Texas. The right-handed pitcher ranks well on Baseball Factory, who list him under "Top Arm Strength," "Top Hitting Ability," "Top Raw Power," and is also recognized for his fastball.
However, he feels he started succeeding at baseball a little later than most.
"I developed really late, pitching wise," said Thornhill. "I didn't start pitching 'til my freshman year."
Thornhill also plays quarterback for Cedar Park High. He is trying to focus on the playoffs right now.
"We have a big game this week and hopefully we can continue to keep this great team together," said Thornhill. "I love these guys. I want to be with them until the end."
But for one day, Thornhill was thrilled to throw up the Hook 'Em sign.
"If I red shirt, I red shirt," said Thornhill. "I just want to contribute to the team. I didn't hink I'd ever be a Longhorn. It's finally here. it's happening."
