AUSTIN (KXAN) - The University of Texas Baseball team was not able to get the weekend sweep over Duke to open the season, as the Horns lost 5-2 Sunday at UFCU-Disch Falk Field.
The Longhorns (2-1) trailed 2-0 until the bottom the eighth inning when senior Kevin Lusson drilled a two-run home run over the right field fence. But Duke came back with two runs in the top of the ninth inning and held on for the win.
Freshman John Curtiss suffered the loss in his collegiate debut, allowing three runs, two earned runs in 3.0 innings pitched.
Freshman Ricky Jacquez pitched 5.0 scoreless innings for the Longhorns.
Lusson had a double along with the home run to lead the UT attack that totaled just five hits.
Texas is home Tuesday night at 6 p.m. against UT-Arlington before a weekend series at No.2 Stanford.
