College Station (KXAN) - COLLEGE STATION, Texas - J'Covan Brown hit the go-ahead layup with less than a minute remaining and later added a pair of free throws to lift Texas to a 70-68 win over Texas A&M on Monday night. It was UT's first road win in an opposing teams home arena this season. Their only other win away from home was against UCLA in the L.A. Sports Arena.
The win is the Longhorns' fifth straight over A&M in the last regular-season Big 12 meeting between these schools with the Aggies leaving for the Southeastern Conference.
Following Brown's go ahead basket, Myck Kabongo came up with a steal at the defensive end and Brown's free throws with 17 seconds remaining made it 70-67. Elston Turner was fouled before he could get a shot off on the other end. He made one free throw and missed the second one, and Julien Lewis grabbed the rebound to cap the Texas win.
Brown led the Longhorns (15-9, 5-6) with 20 points to go with seven assists. Brown was 6-9 from the field and perfect 4-4 from the three point range. Sheldon McClellan scored 13 of his 15 points in the first half.
Turner had 20 points for Texas A&M (12-11, 3-8), which has dropped three straight.
Texas is back home Saturday against Kansas State.
