AUSTIN (KXAN) - Lake Travis High School girls’ volleyball team, Lady Cavaliers, ranks 7th in the country by MaxPreps . Lady Cavaliers was presented with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy on Tuesday.
The honor is part of the second annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions for Girls’ Volleyball presented by the Army National Guard.
Lake Travis is one of just six schools being honored.
MaxPreps, a unit of CBS Interactive, is a California-based company covering high school sports with news, analysis, ranking and streaming content.
“I would like to congratulate Coach Jennifer Kazmierski and the Lake Travis High School girls’ volleyball team on an outstanding season,” said Andy Beal, president and founder of MaxPreps, Inc.
The Lady Cavaliers are the first team in Texas history to win 50 matches in one season. They finished the season 128-1 in total sets.
“I am so proud of the girls on the team,” said Kazmierski, “To be one of just six schools in the country to be recognized is a huge honor.”
With nine returning seniors from the 2010 state championship team, Lady Cavaliers had a great group of young women that led them to their second-straight state title.
Eight of those nine seniors will go on to play volleyball in college next fall, including The University of Texas at Austin, University of Washington and Texas A&M University.
MaxPreps uses a sophisticated computer program, known as the Freeman Rankings, to determine team rank for the Tour of Champions. Generally, the more a team wins, the higher the ranking.
The system takes into account quality wins (against other highly ranked opponents), margin of victory and strength of schedule. Playoff games are weighted 2.1 times a regular season game.
