AUSTIN (AP) — Lake Travis' domination of Class 4A football is over. The University Interscholastic League has made sure of that.
The five-time defending state champions have been bumped up to Class 5A, the state's largest, starting next season.
The UIL on Thursday released its configuration of new athletic districts for the next two years.. The UIL adjusts districts, regions and classifications every two years based on school enrollment.
That means Lake Travis' growing student body now bumps the Cavaliers into the highest level of competition. Class 5A has a minimum enrollment of 2,090 students.
The UIL has also created a massive West Texas district in 5A, lumping together all the 5A schools in Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa and San Angelo.
