Horns to face Oregon St. in Alamo Bowl

BCS shake up keeps UT out of Cotton Bowl

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas will face Oregon St. in the Alamo Bowl Dec. 29 in San Antonio.

This is the second time the Longhorns have played in the Alamo Bowl. Texas defeated Iowa 26-24 in 2006.

"We are excited about the opportunity to play in the Alamo Bowl against a great Oregon State team," Mack Brown said in a statement released by the university. "I've known (Oregon State head coach) Mike (Riley) for a long time, have tremendous respect for him and am looking forward to a great game."

Heading in to the final weekend of the regular season Texas appeared headed for the Cotton Bowl. But a shakeup in the final BCS standings changed that. MAC champion Northern Illinois bypassed Big 12 co-champion Oklahoma, bouncing the Sooners from a BCS bowl and in to a Cotton Bowl matchup with Texas A&M and dropping the Longhorns to the Alamo Bowl.

"The Alamo Bowl folks do a great job, and we had a wonderful experience in the 2006 game against Iowa," Brown said. "It's such a great opportunity for all our families and high school coaches to easily get to the game. We have a tremendous fan base in San Antonio as well, so we know that the game week will be fun, guys will enjoy themselves and the Alamodome will be packed and full of energy on game day."

Oregon State (9-3) greatly surpassed preseason expectations, winning its first six games and earning a top ten ranking before losing to Washington. The Beavers finished 3-3 over their last six games, including a 77-3 win over Nicholls State Saturday.

Running back Storm Woods, a redshirt freshman from Pflugerville High School, is the Beavers' leading rusher with 822 yards and 11 touchdowns.
