AUSTIN (KXAN) - Nathan Thornhill and Corey Knebel combined to throw a two hit shutout and Texas beat Nebraska 2-0, sweeping the three game weekend series.
Thornhill, a junior from Cedar Park, pitched seven shutout innings, surrendering a pair of hits. Knebel took over in the eighth inning and worked two perfect innings to get his third save of the season.
Texas took the lead in the fourth inning. Taylor Stell singled then stole second base, and Mark Payton drove him in with a double. Payton was 3-for-3 Sunday and is batting .500 on the season.
Payton singled in the sixth inning and scored on a Jacob Felts single for the other Longhorns run.
Texas improves to 6-1, its best start since winning the first 11 games of 2009. Nebraska is 0-7.
The Longhorns play Sam Houston State Tuesday before heading to Stanford a three game weekend series beginning Friday.
