Horns deal with criticism

Brown says criticism is now play to play

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Even after a win, the questions always start with the Texas defense.  The Longhorns rank 102nd in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 35 points per game, and that's after giving up just 17 points through their first two games.

Brown hears the criticism about his defense, as do his players.

"I told them it's cruel, it's hurtful, it's sarcastic and if you read it, it will bother you, so don't read it.  Worry more about stopping people and then they'll brag on you too much again," Brown said.

Brown is also well aware of criticism towards second year defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, whose defense was the strength of the team last year while the offense under first year co-coordinator Brian Harsin struggled and is now sixth in the nation in scoring.

"Last year everybody was wanting Manny to take my job, they were wondering why I hired Harsin. So  you live in a fish bowl and it changes not by the game anymore but by the play," Brown said.

Even though Kansas is averaging just over 17 points per game, Brown is concerned about the Jayhawks' run game against a Texas defense that is ranked 107th in the nation against the run, giving up more than 215 yards per game.
