Road to the playoffs begins

A number of area teams open district play

AUSTIN(KXAN) - The stakes go up this week in high school football for a number or area teams. 

District play begins in both 16-5A and 25-5A.  The best matchup in 25-5A appears to be Bowie(3-0) at Westlake(2-1).  The Bulldogs are riding back to back district championships while Westlake is a constant in the post season, with 21 straight playoff appearences.  Two other schools enter district play undefeated.  Anderson (3-0) take on Akins(1-2) at Burger Stadium while Bastrop (2-0) is home to Pflugerville (2-1)

In District 16-5A, Stony Point has moved up to 8th in the state rankings, Tigers plat Westwood(2-1) at Round Rock ISD Stadium.  Round Rock is coming off a win over Pflugerville, Dragons host winless McNeil in their district opener.  It's a backyard brawl at Bible Stadium as Leander meets Vista Ridge.  Cedar Park(1-2) at Georgetown(0-3) rounds out that schedule.

In Class 4A Lake Travis (4-0) has taken over the #1 state ranking.  Cavs travel to Killeen for their district 25-4A opener. Also in 25-4A Hendrickson (2-1) makes the short drive north to take on undefeated Hutto (3-1)

District 26-4A opens play on Thursday when Travis (2-2) visits Reagan (0-3) at Nelson Field.  On friday it's LBJ (1-2) against Lanier(0-4)

In 8-3A traditional power Liberty HIll will try to get on track after a 1-2 start, Panthers play host to Fredericksburg (3-1).  Burnet (2-1) travels to Wimberley (1-3) as well.
