AUSTIN (KXAN) - Gail Goestenkors announced her resignation as the head coach of the University of Texas women's basketball team on Monday.

Goestenkors had a 102-64 record in her five years at Texas, but while she led the Horns to five NCAA tournament appearances, they only got out of the first round once and that was in her first season.

Texas rallied for three straight wins to close the regular season including victories over defending national champion and Oklahoma.  But the Longhorns lost by 23 points to Texas Tech at the Big 12 tournament and then lost to West Virginia by 13 points in their opening round game Saturday.

Goestenkors replaced Hall of Fame coach Jody Conradt after an amazing 15 years run at Duke.  In those 15 years the Blue Devils were 369-99 and 36-13 in the NCAA tournament including four final four appearances.
