AUSTIN (KXAN) - University of Texas President Bill Powers and Men's Athletic Director DeLoss Dodds are recommending that the UT System Board of Regents extend Mack Browns contract an additional four years which take his deal through 2020.
"We want Mack Brown to be University of Texas football coach as long as he wants", Powers and Dodds said in a statement. "He has achieved a level of success rare in college athletics and has done so with class and integrity that embodies the University of Texas at Austin.
"Our football program is in a great place thanks to Mack's hard work. Mack is energized as ever, has a great staff and an exciting young team. Our future is bright."
The Regents will meet via conference call on Thursday afternoon to consider the recommendation.
Texas was 8-5 this past season after their first losing season in Browns 13 years in Austin. The Longhorns are expected to sign one of the top three recruiting classes in the nation on February 1st.
