SAN ANTONIO (KXAN)-- - For the first time since 2008, Texas' Alex Okafor and Oregon State's Storm Woods will be playing on the same field.
Okafor graduated from Pflugerville in 2009, while Woods is a 2011 PHS graduate.
"I've been watching [Okafor] all his career, from high school to college," Woods said. "That's a great friend of mine, and I'm proud of him. I'm blessed to be able to play against him, but at the same time, I'm trying to get a win."
There is plenty of trash talk with this friendly rivalry, but it's not coming from either player.
It's coming from their friends.
"More like a message from my home city," Okafor said. "Everybody's like, 'You better not let Storm run over,' or, 'You better not let Storm shake you,' or something like that. So, it's not really me talking, it's all our friends talking outside of our teams. I think they're kinda building the hype around this."
Woods is the Beavers' leading rusher this season, and Okafor is the Longhorns' fourth-leading tackler.
"I have to be aware of where he is on the field at all times because he's a dominant player," Woods said. " [I don't want to] make him look bad, but if it means doing my job, then, hey, I have to do my job."
While Woods is just a freshman, Saturday's game will be Okafor's last as a Longhorn.
"I feel like I've had a good career here at UT," Okafor said. "I just wanna go out on the right note, I wanna go out with a bang, and just a game to kinda stamp my career here at UT, and that's what I plan on doing."
