Texas and Texas State get walk-off wins

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Longhorns scored a run in the bottom of the 12th inning on an infield hit from Tim Maitland to beat Dallas Baptist 2-1 on Tuesday night.

The Patriots scored in the top of the first inning and The University of Texas tied it in the bottom of the second when Maitland was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.  From there the pitching took over. Six Longhorn pitchers combined on 11 shutout innings, with Corey Knebel picking up the win. 

Alex Silver led off the 12th with a bloop single to center field. Taylor Stell came in a as pinch runner for Silver and scored on Maitland's two out infield hit to shortstop.

Texas improves to 5-7 and open a three-game series against Loyola Marymount Friday at 6 p.m.

In San Marcos, Texas State ran its scoreless-innings streak to 57 2/3 before No. 5 Rice put a run across in the 8th inning. But the Bobcats won it in the bottom of the 9th inning on Tyler Sibley's two-run single, 3-2 was the final score. The-21st ranked Bobcats improve to 9-3, while Rice falls to 11-2.

Starting pitcher Mitchell Pitts went seven innings and allowed three hits and kept another streak alive. He is the 8th consecutive starting pitcher to not allow an earned run. Dylan Adamek allowed both Rice runs, but still picked up his first win.

Texas State opens Southland Conference play Friday at UT-Arlington.
