AUSTIN (KXAN) - National Signing Day has become a three-part proposition in Central Texas.
First there are the local players signing their letters of intent with schools all over the country.
Then there is The University of Texas and their class that will include two players from the area with Austin High receiver Cayleb Jones and Hendrickson High running back/defensive back Daje Johnson expected to sign with Texas. Texas has 27 commitments but room for one more. Receiver Dorial Green-Beckham is regarded as the number one recruit in the nation and will make his decision known Wednesday morning. Texas is considered a long shot with Missouri and Arkansas the two favorites.
The third element is new, the International Bowl All Star game that brings some of the nations most coveted recruits to Austin. Before they play their game at 5:00 at Round Rock's Reeves Athletic Complex they will have a group signing. A total of 53 players from that game will be signing with some of the nations best programs. Along with Johnson from Hendrickson, Brenham High school duo Malcolm Brown (DL) and Timothy Cole (LB), Caleb Bluiett from Beaumont and Dalton Santos (LB) from Van, will sign with Texas.
Five time defending state champion Lake Travis will have five football players signing including Griffin Gilbert who is headed to TCU and Colin Lagasse will sign with SMU.
Some other notable signings expected to take place on Wednesday, Hendrickson defensive lineman Victor Irokansi is headed to Oklahoma State while Leander offensive lineman Jacob Dunning will stay in the Big 12 as well, signing with Iowa State.
Texas State is making the move to FBS or Division 1 and they will pick up a couple of area players. Defensive back Martel Summers from Leander and Cedar Park offensive lineman Felix Romero is also planning to play in San Marcos.
