AUSTIN (KXAN) - The Cedar Park girls flag football team is heading to New Orleans to compete for the 12-14 Girls Division National Title during Super Bowl week.
"It's amazing, it's awesome," Lilah Downey said. "I can't believe it's gonna be in the same week as we are. I'm excited."
NFL and USA football have teamed up put on the flag football national championships.
The Cedar Park girls team qualified for the national tournament after winning the regional tournament in Houston hosted by the Texans.
"It gives a dad a chance to share in a game that typically only boys play," Hector Santiago said. "So now you've got a dad and a daughter talking about the game of football when they're watching football at home."
"I have to say, I'm one of those girls that has a dad, and we watch all the time, and we're cheering, and my mom's just like, 'Oh my goodness,'" Emma White said. "I'm one of those people that just, I watch football and I really enjoy it."
This will be the team's eighth straight trip to the national tournament, and they'll be going for their fourth championship, including its second in a row.
"I think it's gonna be crazy," Nicole Nickdow said. " I'm so excited. I think we already won just going there, so the rest of it's just gonna be fun."
Neighborhood Sports is the official NFL Youth Flag Football League in the Greater Austin Area and runs NFL Flag leagues in Austin, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Steiner Ranch, and Westlake.
