AUSTIN (KXAN) - Redshirt freshman running back and kick returner D.J. Monroe has been reinstated and is expected to play in the BCS Championship game.

Monroe had DWI charges reduced in a San Marcos, Texas court on Friday.  Monroe has missed three games since his arrest on Nov. 15.

Mack Brown announced on monday that Monroe is back at practice with the team and if he does well leading up to the BCS Championship game against Alabama. Monroe is the first player in UT history to return two kickoffs for touchdowns when he did it against Louisiana-Monroe and against UTEP.

Sophomore safety Christian Scott has been ruled academically eligible after missing the entire season to this point. Scott could see some time on special teams against Alabama and possibly on defense. Since Scott has already used a redshirt season, playing in just one game will not effect is remaining eligibility, he will two years remaining.

That is not the case with receiver Brandon Collins. Collins has also missed the entire season with academic issued, but Brown announced that instead of playing him in just one game and costing him an entire season of eligibility, Collins will use this year as a redshirt year and still two years remaining.

The Longhorns have been practicing early in the mornings, and so far Brown said its more about the fundamentals than Alabama.

"We've gone back to two a days," said Brown. "We haven't even talked a lot to [players] about Alabama at this point.  It was a month and two days from the Big 12 Championship game to our ballgame, so its like starting over and having a one game season."

The players will practice through Dec. 22 and then break for Christmas. The team will then come back to campus and practice for a few days, go back home, and meet up in Southern California on New Years Day.
