AUSTIN (KXAN) - Resuming life as a football player is proving to be the best way to get over a disappointing experience at the Olympics for Marquise Goodwin.
The duel sport athlete returned to Texas from London late Wednesday evening and was on the field Thursday with the football team when it returned to practice.
“It was great,” the senior wide receiver said afterwards. “It was a real humbling experience out there in London and I come back to where everybody loves me and is applauding me.
“Your teammates always got your back, that’s what you don’t see on an Olympic team. It’s a team aspect but at the same time you got guys who are trying to compete against you,” he said.
After setting a personal best in the long jump at the US Olympic trials, Goodwin scratched on his first attempt in the finals at the Olympics, eventually finishing tenth.
Goodwin was a limited participant in practice Thursday and will not be in full-pads when the team practices in them for the first time in fall camp Friday.
The senior has hopes of redeeming his Olympic performance in the 2016 Olympics. But by his admission, that is getting ahead of himself. For now, his focus is solely on football.
Goodwin insisted that the switch from one sport to the other was as simple as flipping a light switch, even if he is still dealing with lingering disappointment from London.
“Woulda, coulda, shoulda, it’s time to move on,” he said.
