AUSTIN (KXAN) - Sophomore David Ash will start at quarterback for Texas in its season opener against Wyoming on Sept. 1, Mack Brown announced Wednesday.
Junior Case McCoy, who was battling Ash for the job, will also play, according to Brown, though how much or at what point in the game is still up in the air.
“He ended up having a little edge,” Brown said of Ash, who is listed as the starting quarterback on the Longhorns’ first depth chart of the fall, released Wednesday.
Brown also said sophomores Malcolm Brown and Joe Bergeron plus freshman Johnathan Gray will split carries at running back. Each is also being considered to take snaps in the “Wildhorn” formation.
Brown also announcing Wednesday that Freshman Daje Johnson, a star last season at Hendrickson High School, is suspended for the Wyoming game for violating team rules.
The kickoff for the Wyoming game is 7 pm. The Longhorn Network will broadcast the game.
