AUSTIN (KXAN) - Texas quarterback David Ash has played his way on to the watch list for the Maxwell Award, given annually to college football’s best player.
Ash was one of several players added to the original 65-player watch list released prior to the season.
The sophomore quarterback is coming off his best game as a Longhorn, throwing for 326 yards and four touchdowns against Ole’ Miss, both career highs.
Ash spoke earlier in the week about the importance of balancing the high and lows that come with playing quarterback for Texas.
“Before last week I don’t think anybody liked me. Now everybody likes me,” he said.
“In the future I know there will be times when people don’t like me and times when they like me. They’ll be analyzing every move I make but to me, none of that really matters because I already have the approval of a God that loves me and that’s all I really need. ”
Texas plays at Oklahoma State Saturday. It is the Big 12 opener for both teams.
