AUSTIN (KXAN) - One of Major Applewhite's first orders of business as UT play caller was to name a starting quarterback. On Monday Applewhite told Mack Brown that David Ash would get the nod in the Alamo Bowl against Oregon State. On Tuesday Ash talked about how excited he is to work with the former UT great.
"I've always had a tremendous amount of respect for coach Applewhite," Ash said. "It was cool whenever I found out he was going to be my coach, things that he told me, never a lot, every once in a while he'd give me a piece of advice and all those things he told me before kind of flashed in my head and I just realized every single thing he ever told me has been spot on and really helped me."
Ash will try to return to the form in the middle of the season when Texas won four straight games before struggling against TCU and then missing the Kansas State game with a rib injury. Ash will be facing an Oregon State defense that is allowing only 20 points per game.
