Luling high school football coach dies

Luling (KXAN) - Students and staff at Luling High School are mourning the death of Robert Dean, the school's football coach.

Luling ISD superintendent David Davis said that Dean died Thursday.  The cause of death is not yet known.  But Davis told KXAN that Dean had been out sick for a week due to symptoms of pneumonia.

Luling High School students, teachers, and staff learned about Coach Dean's death at an assembly in the school's gym Thursday afternoon.

This was Dean's second year as coach of the Luling team.  He was 41 years old.

The school canceled all of its athletic events for Thursday.  Davis says the football team plans to play its scheduled game at San Antonio Sam Houston Friday night.
