AUSTIN(KXAN) - Texas Governor Rick Perry welcomed seven Paralympic athletes and coaches to the State Capitol on Thursday. The athletes and coaches along with their families were received proclamations recognizing their accomplishments at a reception.
"this years Paralympic games engaged and inspired the world and reminded us of all the resilience of the human spirit and the pride of accomplishment," Gov. Perry said.
Among those honored was Bronze medalist Archer Lindsey Carmichael of Lago Vista, Texas. "Every dream come true, every athletes dream come true", said Carmichael. "Beijing was the pinnacle. I feel almost sorry for London that they have to follow it, it was so wonderful in every way."
Others Paralympic honorees were Mark Zupan (Rugby), Gina McWilliams (Volleyball), Jennifer Schuble (Cycling), Jordan Mouton (Judo), Wendy Gumbert (Rugby coach) and her husband Saul Mendoza (Rugby, Mexico).
