Cancer survivor starts org

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Triathlete and cancer survivor Kirk Offel organizes a non-profit organization called Veterans for Sarcoma. It seeks to increase awareness and raise funding for sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that affects connective or supportive tissue.

Offel was diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease in 2007. Offel is cancer-free and the Cedar Park resident heads up a triathlete team that is participated in contests all across the state to raise awareness and much-needed money for research into better treatments for the disease.
