ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- Most families of the victims of last year's mass shooting at Virginia Tech have agreed to an $11 million settlement with the state.
The agreement compensates families who lost loved ones and pays survivors' medical costs. The families and survivors also agree not to sue the state or the school over the incident.
Virginia Gov. Timothy Kaine calls the agreement "very positive" but notes that families who have not accepted it can still sue. Notice of any lawsuits must be filed by next Wedneday, the anniversary of the attack.
Holly Sherman's daughter was killed in the shootings. She said she's "very proud" of the families who are "going to move forward" and get this behind them.
A mentally disturbed student shot and killed 32 people and himself and wounded two dozen others at Virginia Tech.
