Travis High teacher arrested for improper relationship

AUSTIN, Texas -- A Travis High School geography teacher has been arrested and charged with having an improper relationship with an 18-year-old student. 

Allen James Cole, 34, resigned from the school Tuesday.

The student said she had a sexual relationship with Cole beginning May 6, according to police with the Austin Independent School District. She told investigators the two had sexual relations several times at Cole's Austin apartment.

Cole has been charged with a second-degree felony and his bond has been set at $10,000.

An AISD police representative said the student told a friend about the relationship, and word got back to administrators at the school.

Cole does not have a criminal record.

AISD released information about the criminal histories of educators in the district on Wednesday.

With 17 employees, Travis High School has the most with criminal histories of any campus in the district.
