Texas offers tax breaks on "green" products

To help promote a greener environment, the state of Texas is offering a tax break on energy efficient appliances.

If you buy an energy efficient appliance this Memorial Day weekend, you'll get it tax free. The appliance must have the Engery Star label on it to be considered "green."

Items like ceiling fans, air conditioners and dishwashers can be purchased, along with other major appliances.

Local retailers say because of the tax break, business is booming.

"The last two days of business have been just been absolutely incredible. It's been a great thing for the customer simply because it offers them the opportunity to save a little bit of money to be able to get a new energy star rated appliance and it's also helping out with the environment by saving water and electricity," said Roger Krebsbach with Lowe's

This weekend's tax free sale is expected to save shoppers 2.6 million dollars.
