State schools hired 10 despite past abuse

AUSTIN (AP) -- An audit says state schools for people with disabilities hired 10 workers despite a history of abuse that should have made them unemployable.

The Department of Aging and Disability Services has since fired those workers, the state auditor's report released Monday said. The report also said the state investigates 99 percent of its top priority abuse complaints within 24 hours, as required by law.

The report also found that state homes are not finding alternative living arrangements for most of those who request them.
