Monday night, parents and school officials met to talk about Pearce Middle School.
The Texas Education Agency is considering closing the Northeast Austin school or handing it over to alternative management after it has posted low-test scores for the last three years.
Most people who attended the meeting, including a state lawmaker who once attended Pearce, said the school needs to stay open and stay on course.
"I only know that we can make it work if we put our minds to it and our resources to it, and we keep the same principal in place for a while, let him do his job, they've been turning things around. It's great what I'm seeing over there," Rep. Donna Howard (D)-District 48.
There is no word on when the TEA will make its decision on Pearce.
