New study ranks Austin as seventh drunkest city

AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) - Austin has been ranked the seventh most dangerously drunk city in the U.S., according to a new study from Men's Health.

Denver took first place, and two other Texas cities made the top 10: San Antonio (No. 6) and Lubbock (No. 9).

Least drunk? Durham, N.C.

Some facts from the Texas Department of Transportation:

  • In Texas, someone is hurt or killed in an alcohol-related crash nearly every 20 minutes. Drunk driving claims five lives every day.
  • A person can be charged and arrested with DWI in Texas if his or her blood alcohol concentration is 0.08. A person can also be considered intoxicated if impaired due to alcohol or other drugs, regardless of BAC.
  • If caught with an open container, driver and passenger can be fined up to $500.
