AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) - Attorney General Greg Abbott has ruled the surveillance video at the Governor's Mansion on the night of a major fire does not have to be released to the media at this time because of the nature of the ongoing criminal investigation in the arson case.

The request was sought by the Department of Public Safety. A four-alarm fire on June 8 caused substantial damage to the 152-year-old Governor's Mansion. DPS, charged with  has been faulted with security lapses at the mansion: one officer on duty instead of two; malfunctioning surveillance video cameras; and a lack of patrols on the property.

The media was told the video appears to indicate that some tossed a flaming object onto the second-floor balcony of the mansion, which started the fire.

The opinion can be found here.
