HAYS COUNTY, TEXAS (KXAN) -- A man drowned in the Blanco River Sunday.
Hays County deputies got a 911 call around 4 p.m. Two young men were having a day of fun at Dudley Johnson Park, when one of them slipped under the water and never came up.
It took the Kyle fire department only ten minutes to find his body and pull it from the water. The man was identified as Juan Humberto Lopez Beltran, 27, from Kyle.
The Fire Department said even though the river is shallow, the current can cause underwater holes and caves.
"We're afraid that he was walking along in the water and all of sudden found one of these holes and it caught him by surprise and into the hole he went and panicked and unfortunately did not come back up," said Deputy Mike Thielen with Hays County Sheriffs Dept.
